Comprehensive story via reprints of contemporary articles
Until recently the main sources of information, other than Bristol Cars and the Bristol Owners Club sites, were both out of print. Now there is a new Brooklands title - Bristol Cars - that gives a comprehensive guide to the cars and personalities behind this fascinating marque. For those of you lucky enough to have the Brooklands Bristol Cars Gold Portfolio 1946-1992 and interested only in the models of those years it may seem pointless in buying this new book but there is a surprising amount of new information about all models from 400 through to 603 and Brigand plus a selection of tests done by classic car magazines since 1992. For those wishing to augment their knowledge of the post '92 vehicles or for those of you new to Bristols I can heartily recommend this book which, follows the usual Brooklands practice of allowing the history to be told by contemporary articles from the international motoring press. At 320 pages this is a comprehensive guide which runs from the earliest 400 right up to the announcement of the Fighter - the last article is dated December 1st 1999. As with all Brooklands portfolios the quality of the print varies from article to article - dependent on the quality of the original and there is little colour in the book, though most of the information was originally published in black and white much of the later writings would have benefitted from colour reproduction.
