    2008 Best yet5
Having tried Zone Alarm, Bullguard, McAfee, AVG and an older version of Norton I can say with some authoirty that this version of Norton is better than all of them. Why? Quite simply Norton have sorted out the speed - much faster.
    Buy with confidence.
Just remember - remove all traces of previous security software. If you have McAfee - use their software removal tool - available to download on their website.

    Far better4
It seems that Norton have cottoned onto the fact that people do not like restrictive licensing restrictions. With this pack you can install the software onto three seperate computers at the same time and be totally legal.

This is a godsend to a lot of users. Many people now have a couple of Computers (a desktop and a laptop) in the same house. Many people have kids who are off at University with their own laptops. Previously it was prohibitively expensive to purchase two or three copies to install, but not any more.

As to the software itself, well it seems a lot nicer to look at. Norton have evidently given it a 'Vista look' makeover, there are lots of black and yellow screens and buttons with swish glossy highlights. It is certainly a lot more professional to look at than previous versions.

It also seems to be a lot more responsive, Norton Internet Security 2007 seemed to slow down the loading of Webpages within Internet Explorer 7 as it tried to check the pages for Phishing exploits. This latest version seems to load the pages much faster.

The overall responsiveness of the package also seems much faster, which probably ties in with Nortons claims that they've worked hard to speed the program up.

The Norton Protection Centre tab gives a good summary of the protection status of your computer, giving information on Virus Protection, Firewall, Windows Automatic Update, Protection Update, Spyware Protection, Virus and Spyware Scanning, Incoming and Outgoing Email Scanning and Phising Scanning amongst other things.

Another new feature introduced with this version is the Network Map, this page gives details as to whether or not Norton considers your Wireless Network Secure as well as the Security Status of your computer. It also gives useful information as to the Network name of the machine, its status (online or offline), its IP address and also its MAC address.

After having heard the horror stories from people that use Norton 360, I'm glad that I made the decision to use this package on my Windows XP machine (its also apparently Vista Compatable)

So all in all a good return to form by Norton

    Pretty damn good!5
Well the time had come. My subscription to NIS 2007 was up. Hmm Do I renew or upgrade to NIS 2008? I decided to go with the latest version so I unistalled 2007, got the Norton removal tool and ran that. Seriously UNISTALL the previous version first, run the removal tool and you're all set to go. I've noticed NIS 2008 runs faster than NIS 2007 and takes up less resources. NIS 2006 was one of the most bloated software Norton had ever released. They've obviously listened and rewritten the code base because NIS 2008 runs like a dream. It's fast and speedy and just does what it says on the side of the tin. The only thing I don't like is that it makes every decision for you. I like to be in a bit more control although if you delve deeper into this software you can still tinker if you want. Having said that, all the default settings are sound so just leave well alone. This is pretty much install and forget as it does it all for you.
