Synopsis
THE SOMETHING, SOMETHING, SOMETHING DARK SIDE is the sequel to BLUE HARVEST, a special 60 minute episode from cult cartoon franchise FAMILY GUY. Following the example of its predecessor, this instalment retraces the adventures of the STAR WARS saga from the bizarre perspective of Seth MacFarlane’s dysfunctional characters. Chris Griffin – the chubby and clumsy teenage son - is transformed into a less charming and not so resourceful Luke Skywalker, Stewie Griffin – the ever menacing toddler - aptly morphs into an even meaner version of Darth Vader, while Peter Griffin and Lois Griffin play Han Solo and Princess Leia respectively.

More miss than hit, but worth watching
Just saw this Family Guy special, and I have to say it was a bit of a let down.
Clocking in at just under an hour long, the episode looks fantastic, with very impressive(For an animated comedy show at least) CGI used to recreate the special effects from Empire Strikes Back and the original soundtrack from Empire also utilised perfectly and unaltered. You can't fault the episode for attention to detail and it's clear respect for the source material, but what you can fault it for is it's distinct lack of worthwhile gags, which is kind of a major downer for a COMEDY show to have I'm sure you'll agree.
Most of the jokes fall incredibly flat throughout, with several typical Family Guy 'cut away' gags that have nothing to do with Star Wars that could have been in any episode of the show eating up run time throughout proving to be notable low points, the episode's portrayal of 'newer' Star Wars characters like Boba Fett and Yoda are pretty poor to be honest, and one of the funnier sounding jokes from a table read the cast talked about in interviews a while ago relating to Empire's infamous 'incestuous' kiss scene seems to have been cut out completely. If not for the big budget Star Wars celebration behind it, this would probably rank as one of the lesser Family Guy episodes overall.
SOME good gags are present though, don't get me wrong. The scenes on the Millenium Falcon are mostly quite decent, Luke's 'Jedi training' is funny(But is a variation on a joke they've used before), and the persistently petty complaining by the stormtroopers/Rebel soldiers is usually chuckle worthy, but such moments are the exception rather than the rule.
It's certainly fun, sure, but it's far from the funniest Family Guy you'll ever see. It's worth seeing for the impressive amount of work that has clearly gone into it's production if nothing else but just don't expect anything special.
Straight up 'average' from me, and possibly not worth a tenner to see, but given that it's not showing on TV this time for another six months or so, it isn't like there are many other choices... well, legal ones at least... wink wink.
Brilliant!
For the Family Guy fan this is a must see!
Following on from Blue Harvest, it is another fantastic spin off of the Star Wars series. Full of classic Family Guy moments & its typical genius one liners, this film had me laughing from the word go. The religious "digs" at the FOX network are included & they are quite brilliant.
I would definitely recommend this for anyone who is a fan of the series.
