This 4-disc (2 CD + 2 DVD) limited deluxe edition of Good Evening New York City features dazzling performances of Beatles, Wings and solo classics from Citi Field, formerly Shea Stadium, historic site of The Beatles’ Landmark 1965 Concert. As documented on Good Evening New York City, "I'm Down" from the Beatles 1965 set list was revived for the Citi Field shows. Other highlights  include faithful takes on Beatles classics "Drive My Car", "Got To Get You Into My Life", "The Long And Winding Road", "Blackbird", "Eleanor Rigby", "Back In The USSR", "Paperback Writer", "Let It Be", "Hey Jude", "Helter Skelter" and more, plus "Something" rendered on a ukulele given to Paul by George Harrison, and a tribute to John Lennon in the form of a medley of "A Day In The Life" and "Give Peace A Chance". Wings-era tracks include "Band On The Run", "My Love", "Let Me Roll It" and "Live And Let Die". The McCartney solo material ranges from "Here Today" to the upbeat "Flaming Pie" and "Dance Tonight", to a pair of numbers from Electric Arguments, the 2008 album released under the alias of The Firemen.

The concert footage featured on Good Evening New York City edition features concert footage directed by Paul Becher, who has overseen live visuals for McCartney for some 200 performances and counting. The 33-song 2 hour 40 minute performances were shot in High Definition using 15 cameras and digital footage incorporated from 75 Flipcams handed out to fans over the course of the three night stand. The audio mix, in both stereo and 5.1, was handled by longtime McCartney engineer Paul Hicks, whose credits include the recent Beatles remasters, The Beatles Anthology, Let It Be... Naked, and two Grammy awards for his mixing work on the Beatles' Love album.

Also featured on the deluxe edition is expanded packaging and a bonus DVD including McCartney's headline-making performance on the Ed Sullivan Theater Marquee (including bonus numbers not aired on the Late Show with David Letterman broadcast).

Paul's best live album ever? Probably!
"Good Evening New York City" documents Paul's three phenomenally successful live shows at New York's Citi Field in July 2009 on two CDs and one DVD. Now, I'm going to lay my cards on the table. I'm a huge Paul McCartney fan and own pretty much everything he has officially released, so I'm looking at this release from the eyes of someone who is very familiar with past live albums and also someone who has issues with the lack of variety in Macca's set-lists. However, for someone like me, there are live versions of "Highway" and "Sing The Changes" from his recent "Fireman" album, plus never released live tracks such as "Mrs. Vandebilt", "A Day In The Life/Give Peace A Chance", "I'm Down" and "Daytripper", enough to make me want to buy this, regardless of whether I would have bought it for my collection anyway.

Here's the good news - it's good. Very good, in fact. Paul's current live band is arguably the best he has ever worked with. Although they always bring their top game to the stage, they don't treat the Beatles material like a sacred cow. Abe isn't afraid to use some different drum fills or improvised beats during the songs and Rusty doesn't shy away from varying the guitar solos either - and this is a very good thing, it removes the predictability from the songs most of us all know and love and breathes new life into them. Paul is also in fine voice throughout and you'd struggle to believe that the man was approaching 70, given some of the notes he hits (check out the end of "My Love"). The charisma of the man just glows from the speakers and, although this may surprise the casual fans, it is the more recent material which particularly shines during this set, as opposed to the tried and tested Beatles songs... not that they don't sound great - they really do!

When all is said and done, this is probably Paul's best live album to date. The sound is so alive and vibrant, it's almost like you're there - and I wish that I had have been. My only real gripe stems from the set-list. How many more live versions of "Hey Jude", "Band On The Run", "The Long And Winding Road", "Let Me Roll It" or "Live & Let Die" does your average Macca fan need? I guess my secondary whine is that many of these wonderful songs deserve live, 'real' instruments, such as trumpets, sax and strings instead of the synthesized versions from Wix's keyboards. Sometimes, in the case of "A Day In The Life", they work brilliantly. During other songs, however, such as the almost painful "sax" solo in "Lady Madonna" or the tinny, fake brass on "Got To Get You Into My Life", they all but ruin the song. Perhaps it's not as noticeable when you're at the concert, enjoying the live music, but you definitely pine for the real thing when you hear a recording of the show.

Still, these really are minor niggles. For fans who don't own a Paul McCartney live album, it's essential. For huge Paul McCartney fans (completists), it's also essential. For those who already own a couple of Paul's live albums, it's far from something you must own - more like a "nice to have", but I can't see many people being disappointed with this particular purchase. As for me, I'll be there at the O2 on December 22nd - and this package has whetted my appetite nicely.

At last a great Paul McCartney concert on DVD.
I've managed to watch quite a bit of this dvd and all i can say is WOW! I own all McCartney's other music dvd's and i hate watching them,mainly because of all the interuptions in between the songs.This time we get the whole concert without all the rubbish in between ruining it,a straight forward show at last.I'd have prefered a few more of Macca's solo work to be included as the set is a little Beatle's heavy(even though i love the beatles)i have a lot of the songs on previous releases.But it doesn't really matter this is a great music dvd to watch over and over again.

Outstanding
What a fantastic show, highlights of the dvd. "Sing the changes" from the Fireman album OUTSTANDING performance with a great light show behind. Paul's tribute to John, "Here Today", filled with emotion Paul nearly breaks down two or three times, this is followed by a very uplifting "Dance Tonight" Paul really needed that song to get back into things. There wasn't a person who didn't enjoy listening to "Mrs Vanderbilt" and you can see the band really enjoyed playing it!

A great surprise is when during "I'm Down" we flick back and forth to the Beatles at Shea Stadium, perfectly edited, and boy is John enjoying himself!

A great tribute to George with "Something", the best performance of it by Paul I've heard, as is "I've Got A Feeling" which kicks into an extended upbeat ending with Paul playing lead guitar .

"Paperback Writer" certainly gets the treatment with an extended guitar solo, excellent!

Paul chats between the tracks and looks comfortable and is clearly enjoying himself, the band are very tight and Abe plays a blinder on the kit.

The big spoiler is the girl with the big red head that talks over a really rocking "Only Mama Knows" and who again pops up during "Back in the USSR" how did she get past the editing stage!! That said, the package is great value for money 5 out of 5 Macca!
