Lord of Snow and Shadows (The Tears of Artamon)Lord of Snow and Shadows (The Tears of Artamon) by Sarah Ash
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.01
A gripping and intriguing plot set in a world largely influenced by the language, customs and history of Russia.
Prisoner of the Iron Tower: Book Two of the Tears of ArtamonPrisoner of the Iron Tower: Book Two of the Tears of Artamon by Sarah Ash
Buy new: £4.52 / Used from: £1.50
An impressive follow-up to The Lord of Snow and Shadows - though perhaps not as thrilling as the first book, it's a great continuation of the trilogy.
Children of the Serpent Gate (The Tears of Artamon)Children of the Serpent Gate (The Tears of Artamon) by Sarah Ash
Buy new: £6.99 / Used from: £1.69
Third and final addition to Sarah Ash's trilogy - very fast-paced and exciting, and thankfully not burdended by the clichéd happy ending.
The Gift (Pellinor)The Gift (Pellinor) by Alison Croggon
Buy new: £4.76 / Used from: £0.01
Great story set in a world of bards and good vs. dark forces - Croggon has created a convincing world with impressive history, legends, and geography!
The RiddleThe Riddle by Alison Croggon
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £1.75
Great follow-up to The Gift - like the first book, I love that the characters travel all round Croggon's created world. The map's there for a reason, as is not always the case!
The Outstretched Shadow (Obsidian Triology - Book 1)The Outstretched Shadow (Obsidian Triology - Book 1) by James Mallory
Buy new: £4.95 / Used from: £0.01
Your typical high fantasy trilogy including elves, a dragon, unicorns, centaurs, demons and various otherwordly creatures, yet it still seems to stand apart from your standard fantasy story.
To Light a Candle (Obsidian Trilogy - Book 2)To Light a Candle (Obsidian Trilogy - Book 2) by Mercedes Lackey
Buy new: £7.19 / Used from: £0.73
Great continuation of the Obsidian Trilogy - by this time I had grown used to the rather clichéd evil forces that had initially disappointed me in the first book.
The Curse of the Mistwraith (The Wars of Light & Shadow)The Curse of the Mistwraith (The Wars of Light & Shadow) by Janny Wurts
Buy new: £5.41 / Used from: £0.01
This is the series i'm currently reading (i'm on book 2 of about 11 so far!), and I love it for its characters and the constantly changing direction of the plot. You can't get bored with this one!
Ships of Merior (The Wars of Light & Shadow)Ships of Merior (The Wars of Light & Shadow) by Janny Wurts
Buy new: £5.40 / Used from: £0.01
Great sequel to The Curse of the Mistwraith - I was worried about starting such a long series, but have found that it has not once dipped in quality. A fantastic read!
SabrielSabriel by Garth Nix
Buy new: £5.00 / Used from: £0.01
This is one of those books I could continually re-read. Nix's plot has depth and the characters are wonderful, so much so that i've decided to name a cat after Sabriel's sarcastic white cat, Mogget!
LiraelLirael by Garth Nix
Buy new: £5.49 / Used from: £0.01
Lirael is a great sequel to Sabriel, but I was disappointed that the main characters of the first book are not present in this book apart from a quick sighting =(
AbhorsenAbhorsen by Garth Nix
Buy new: £4.97 / Used from: £0.01
Great conclusion, though I'd say it was my least favourite of the three.
The HobbitThe Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Buy new: £4.37 / Used from: £0.01
If you haven't read the Lord of the Rings yet, I really suggest you read this one first. It's a great introduction to Middle Earth and is just as good, perhaps even better than the Lord of the Rings.
The Lord of The Rings (Based on the 50th Anniversary Single volume edition 2004)The Lord of The Rings (Based on the 50th Anniversary Single volume edition 2004) by J.R.R. Tolkien
Buy new: £12.47 / Used from: £0.01
There's no way a high fantasy list could not include LotR - it's my favourite work of all time, and apart from an epicly boring chapter called 'Treebeard', i'd say it's perfect.
The Magicians' Guild: Black Magician Trilogy, Book 1The Magicians' Guild: Black Magician Trilogy, Book 1 by Trudi Canavan
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.01
This is one of those mass market series that turned out to be good - be warned though, it's like reading J.K Rowling in that the writing's not great, but the story is thrilling.
The Novice: Black Magician Trilogy, Book 2The Novice: Black Magician Trilogy, Book 2 by Trudi Canavan
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.63
Good sequel
The High Lord: The Black Magician Trilogy Book ThreeThe High Lord: The Black Magician Trilogy Book Three by Trudi Canavan
Buy new: £5.99 / Used from: £0.62
In this you'll find a surprising twist in the story, but a great conclusion to the trilogy.
