Synopsis
The only native-born Cornishman of the St Ives artists, Peter Lanyon was one of the most exciting and original landscape painters of the 20th century. His representation of the land in which he grew up was complex and passionate and his landscape art placed him in the forefront of abstract painting in Europe and America in the late 50s and early 60s. This book tells of Lanyon's singular place within the 20th century's major art movements alongside his strong belief in employing landscape and place to explore questions of personal identity.

Really good book
I am a painter and I really admire the work of Peter Lanyon and I really like this book. The images are beautifully reproduced. There aren't that many books on Peter Lanyon but I feel that this is one of the better ones. I think his work is much underated compared with other artists who lived and worked in St Ives for example Hepworth and Nicholson but I think his work is just as valid if not more as he was born and lived in St Ives unlike many other artists of the same period who passed through St Ives.
I would like the book on his drawings next!
