A stunning tale of romance and magic set against the legendary backdrop of King Arthur's court. At nineteen the beautiful Lady Rhian is clearly of marriageable age. But her father seems reluctant to give his blessing to any of her suitors. When she discovers the true reason for this -- that in return for her mother's life he promised her to a sorcerer -- she runs away to join a convent. The sorcerer, Euberacon, is determined to exact his payment and waylays Rhian on the road, but she is rescued by the valiant Sir Gawain, a knight of King Arthur's Round Table, who gallantly offers to escort Rhian to Camelot. Gawain has grave tidings to bring to Arthur -- the Saxons are growing restless, and the threat of war looms. He has taken a great risk in stopping to help Rhian. But when a band of Saxons attacks them, Rhian proves that her skills include more than tapestry and gossip -- and Gawain will be captivated as much by her bravery as by her beauty.

Review
Praise for The Isavalta Trilogy: 'A sumptuous tale of subtle magic, malevolent sorcery and twisted loyalties -- you won't regret venturing into Sarah Zettel's world' Sara Douglass 'A fresh and surprisingly exciting fantasy thriller...Zettel's engaging writing style conjures up a gripping plot and some effective, three-dimensional characterisation. Even the magic system is well-thought out and inventive...this engaging and vivid slice of escapist fantasy will keep fans of Robin Hobb more than happy' SFX 'Zettel's first fantasy novel is a triumph of story-telling...All the characters are powerfully drawn, especially Bridget, a strong and attractive heroine...A Sorcerer's Treason is a magnificent fantasy novel, showcasing just how good this genre can be. Rich, compelling and exciting, this could be the best fantasy debut in years' Amazon 'Sarah Zettel's well-told and absorbing tale is full of original touches' Starburst
When her father, Rygehill, pledges Rhian before her birth to the black sorcerer, Euberacon, the scene is set for a battle royal between the forces for good and evil. Nineteen years old, Rhian and her mother are nonplussed as to why Rygehill is unwilling to accept even the most eligible of suitors - puzzlement turning to terrified dismay on learning of the Faustian pact. Rhian flees her home only to be pursued by Kerra; is she woman or raven? Also a strange giant - a Green Man with emerald teeth who speaks in riddles but then a gallant champion named Gawain comes to her aid.One of the High King Arthur's knights, Gawain promises to see her safely to Camelot where Arthur and Guinevere will gainsay the odious promise made to Euberacon. But the forces of evil are great indeed and it is difficult to tell who is friend or foe. Sarah Zettel brings bloody battles with the Saxons as vividly to life as the refined opulent court at Camelot as she weaves a magical story that is shot through with strands of mysticism. (Kirkus UK)

Camelot's Ladies brought to life
I bought this book on the recommendation of a shop assistant at a local bookshop. Not expecting too much I began to read, and have been unable to put it down since. The story is based on the legend of Gawain and the Green Knight with a twist. It focuses upon the Lady Rhian known in the legends as Lady Ragnelle and her relationship with Gawain, as well as the other members of Camelot's court. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and await the others with a great deal of anticipation.
completely worth it!
I picked up this book with a little trepidition, as an avid medieval film and book fan i thought it would not live up to my expectations, as so many books have in the past. I am amazed to say that I could not put this book down!it was absolutely perfect, blending just the right amount of realistic romance and adventure and having read the following 2 books I cant recommend them enough!
Romantic Arthurian Fantasy Well Worth Reading
This romantic fantasy recreates Camelot in all its glory and, if Arthurian legends are your thing, then don't miss this.
The Lady Risa escapes from her father after learning of his promise to give her over to an evil sorcerer in exchange for the life of her beloved mother. Enter Sir Gawain, Kings Champion and Knight of the Round Table and, after several (rather lucky) escapes from marauding Saxons seeking their blood, love blossoms.
The old tale of Gawain and the Green Knight has been reworked beautifully; Risa's feelings of despondency at the loss of her home and her father's betrayal, fear of the evil mage capturing her soul and her growing feelings for Gawain wrapped in the knowlegde of his superior station in life.
Interestingly there are no signs of the passionate ill-fated affair between Lancelot and Guinevere. Lancelot seen through the eyes of Gawain is portrayed as vain and boastful.
Well recommended for all fantasy lovers - a different style from Zettel's 'Isavalta trilogy' but gripping none the less. I'll definitely be buying the sequel 'Camelot's Honour'.....
