Bosh ART 23 LI - Cordless Grass Trimmer
Appears to work quite well and was pleased that I did not have to change out the Trimmer Blades, unalike the older strimmers which needed constant renewal. The battery takes 3 hours to charge and would estimate that I got around three quarters of an hours life on each of the occassions that I have used it. Quite light to carry and easy to use. Would have liked more life in the battery. A two hour stint would have been perfect. However it cut fairly long grass and am pleased so far.

Useless around hard edges
My main reason for selecting this product was the Lithium Ion battery, which should not be affected by the "memory" effect of traditional NiCad batteries, giving longer life. I was replacing a NiCad item that had lasted just 2 years. Unfortunately, the Bosch ART 23Li uses weak cutting blades which render it useless for my purposes. I have returned it for a conventional line strimmer. Amazon returns were excellent.

Positives:

- Light weight
- Cordless
- LiIon battery

Negatives:

- Blades are totally useless if you go near hard edges (paving). Think on using one blade per usage (very expensive) just to go along the edge of a driveway!
- More complicated rotating mechanism for edging than on other strimmers
- Rotation for edging leaves head at a slighly inconvenient angle for edging

Pretty useless
I bought this with high hopes. I've used a Flymo Sabre for doing edges, and I used it so much it eventually fell apart after 3 years of faithful service. I bought the Bosch as a replacement, mainly on Bosch's good reputation as a manufacturer of woodworking tools.

1/ The 'blades' last very little time at all, even cutting fresh grass. They are ridiculously expensive when compared with their manufacturing cost.
2/ The tool is advertised as being suitable for edging. It is dismally awful at the job and it is impossible to get a straight edge because of the geometry of the tool.
3/ The instructions are appallingly inadequate, and I cannot find a site where I can download better instructions.
4/ There are wearing parts for which there seems to be no source of replacements, or means of detaching the broken part. As the instructions were inadequate, I shall never know for certain. I suppose that Bosch assume that you're going to stick it in a skip when anything wears out.

Be warned: There are much better battery-powered strimmers on the market.
